What Ofsted Looks for During an SC1 Inspection

Ofsted’s SC1 inspections of children’s homes and supported accommodation look closely at outcomes for children and young people, not just paperwork – inspectors spend time talking to children, staff, and (where appropriate) family members.

Judgements typically cover the overall experiences and progress of children, how well they are helped and protected, and the effectiveness of leaders and managers. A home’s Statement of Purpose is a key reference point throughout – inspectors check that what actually happens matches what the home says it will do.

Homes that keep their Statement of Purpose, policies, and records genuinely current – rather than treating them as a once-a-year exercise – tend to find inspections far less stressful.
