Children’s homes registered with Ofsted also require a Registered Manager, registered separately from the home’s own registration – similar in principle to the CQC model, but sitting under Ofsted’s own framework and the Children’s Homes Regulations.
The Registered Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the home in line with its Statement of Purpose: leading the staff team, safeguarding, care planning, and making sure everyday practice genuinely matches what the home says it does on paper.
As with adult social care, an extended vacancy in the Registered Manager role is one of the things Ofsted pays close attention to – outcomes for children are closely tied to stable, present leadership, not just to policies being in place.
