International Care Workers Training

This course is grounded directly in Caring Alliance’s own “International Care Workers” training offer and in the real UK legal and policy framework governing international recruitment: the DHSC Code of Practice for the International Recruitment of Health and Social Care Personnel and the Health and Care Worker Visa framework.

International recruitment has made a genuinely substantial contribution to the UK care workforce, and many care providers now depend on overseas colleagues to deliver safe, consistent care. Yet, as Caring Alliance’s own experience with providers and international care workers has repeatedly shown, training completed overseas, or generic UK inductions such as the Care Certificate alone, very often leave a genuine gap: they do not always reflect UK-specific standards and boundaries (some overseas training, for instance, prepares workers for tasks such as administering injections that in the UK are reserved to registered practitioners), they rarely address the real differences between domiciliary, supported living, residential and nursing environments, and they say almost nothing about the genuine, human experience of culture shock, sponsorship, and building a new life in the UK.

Written for registered managers, and for the international care workers they employ and support, this course covers across eighteen lessons why international recruitment matters, the Health and Care Worker Visa and sponsor licence duties as they stand in 2026, the DHSC Code of Practice and ethical, transparent repayment clauses, right to work compliance, UK-specific regulations, roles and the care value base, confidentiality and health and safety, where overseas training and UK practice genuinely diverge, British Values, the genuine, predictable shape of culture shock, pastoral support and induction, communication and confidence, building a pathway to the Care Certificate and regulated qualifications, safeguarding and professional boundaries, and support across each of the three service types.
