The Role of the Nominated Individual

Where a CQC-registered provider is an organisation rather than an individual, it must also nominate a Nominated Individual – someone with overall responsibility for supervising how the regulated activity is managed on the provider’s behalf, and the main point of contact for CQC at organisational level.

The role is distinct from the Registered Manager’s: the Registered Manager runs a location day to day, while the Nominated Individual provides oversight and assurance across the organisation, and is expected to have real visibility of a location’s performance even without being present there daily.

Like the Registered Manager, whoever takes on this role goes through their own fit and proper person assessment with CQC – it isn’t just a title added to an existing job description.
