Five Questions to Ask Before Expanding Your Care Service

Growth is often treated as an unambiguously good sign, but expanding a care business carries real regulatory and financial risk if it isn’t planned carefully.

Before committing, it’s worth honestly answering:

• Does current management capacity support a bigger or more complex service, or does it need to grow first?
• Is there genuine, evidence of local demand, or are you relying on an assumption based on one enquiry?
• Will the new registration requirements (a new CQC location, or a new Ofsted registration) realistically fit your current timeline?
• Can current cash reserves absorb a slow ramp-up period?
• And does the team have the specific skills the new service type needs, or is that a gap to close first?

None of these questions should stop good growth – they just make sure it’s planned growth rather than reactive growth.
