The Level 3 Managing and Facilitating Infection Prevention and Control in Care for Non-Medical Professionals is an endorsed qualification designed for staff who have responsibility for infection prevention and control within their care setting. It equips learners with the knowledge and skills to manage IPC processes, lead colleagues in safe practice, and ensure compliance with current legislation and standards.
This qualification is ideal for senior care workers, team leaders, and managers in residential, domiciliary, supported living, and day centre settings who need to go beyond basic infection control awareness and take on a coordinating or facilitating role. It covers the chain of infection, standard and transmission-based precautions, outbreak management, environmental hygiene, decontamination, and the management of IPC within the wider care service.

Understanding the six links in the chain of infection: infectious agent, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, portal of entry, and susceptible host. How breaking the chain prevents the spread of infection.
Implementing standard precautions including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory hygiene, safe handling of sharps, and management of blood and body fluid spillages.
Understanding contact, droplet, and airborne precautions. Implementing isolation protocols and cohorting. Managing care delivery for individuals with known or suspected infections.
Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation in care settings. Managing the environment to reduce infection risk. Decontamination of equipment and shared spaces. Waste management and segregation.
