A Level 3 short course on recognising seizure types, administering emergency medication, and providing safe first aid for individuals with epilepsy.

Our Epilepsy Awareness Course is a Level 3 short course that equips care workers and support staff with the knowledge and practical skills to support individuals with epilepsy safely and confidently. The course covers seizure types and triggers, emergency medication administration (including buccal midazolam and rectal diazepam), first aid during and after a seizure, and the importance of person-centred epilepsy management plans. Grounded in the social model of care and human rights-based practice, the training promotes dignity, independence, and informed choice for people living with epilepsy.

Understanding Epilepsy

What epilepsy is, its causes, and how it affects the brain and nervous system.

Seizure Types and Triggers

Recognising focal and generalised seizures, absence seizures, and status epilepticus; identifying common triggers.

Emergency Medication

Administering buccal midazolam and rectal diazepam safely, including indications, contraindications, and post-administration monitoring.

First Aid for Seizures

Safe positioning, protecting the person during a seizure, knowing when to call emergency services, and post-ictal care.

Epilepsy Management Plans

Understanding and implementing individual epilepsy management plans, including risk assessment and lifestyle considerations.

Person-Centred Support

Promoting dignity, independence, and informed choice; supporting individuals to manage their condition and live full lives.
