Children living in residential homes are some of the most vulnerable in the sector. They may have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect, and often have complex emotional and behavioural needs. Our training includes specific modules and scenarios relevant to working with looked after children in a residential setting, building trusted relationships, understanding trauma-informed practice, and promoting positive outcomes.
Children's home staff work closely with placing local authorities, social workers, independent reviewing officers, and other professionals. Our training covers the importance of effective information sharing, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to care plans and placement reviews, all within the framework of GDPR and information governance.
Children in residential settings may display behaviour that challenges as a result of their experiences. Our course introduces the principles of positive behaviour support, de-escalation techniques, and the importance of least restrictive practice, aligned with the Children's Homes Standards on behaviour management.
Safeguarding in a children's home has additional complexity: children are away from their families, staff are in loco parentis, and incidents may occur outside school hours. Our safeguarding module addresses peer-on-peer abuse, missing from care protocols, child criminal exploitation and county lines, child sexual exploitation, and the specific reporting duties for residential staff, including notifications to Ofsted under the regulations.
