UpdatedNovember 8, 2025

You may be wondering how this train the trainer qualification relates to the old PTTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) award. Our programme has been carefully mapped to the updated Level 3 Award in Education and Training, which has now fully replaced PTTLLS as the recognised entry qualification for new trainers and instructors.

What’s different?

Unlike its predecessor, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training was created with flexibility in mind. There are no minimum teaching hours required to complete the qualification, making it more accessible if you’re just stepping into a teaching or training role, or if you want to build your skills without committing to extended placements.

This means:

  • It’s suitable whether you are brand new to training, or have recently started delivering sessions.
  • You’ll gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills for managing classroom dynamics and engaging your learners effectively.
  • the qualification is an essential baseline for people moving into health and social care training, but also provides valuable professional development if you’re already in post and need a formal, recognised teaching qualification.

Ultimately, if you’ve heard of or previously considered PTTLLS, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is now the gold standard as a regulated initial teaching qualification.
